From a naturopathic perspective, the health of the nervous system is critically important for our overall general health because the nervous system is responsible for regulating key body functions. The nervous system is otherwise referred to as the body´s command center, regulating vital processes such as movement, sensation, digestion, mood, anxiety, memory, etc. Disruptions to our nervous system can have widespread negative impacts on our overall function. Nervous system health is directly connected to our endocrine (hormone) system, so imbalances in one system can lead to imbalances in the other. Nervous system health also affects disease risk. Chronic stress, sleep issues, inflammation, and anxiety, etc. are linked to an increased risk of conditions like heart disease, diabetes, depression, and neurodegenerative disorders. Maintaining nervous system health is therefore essential for disease prevention. As a naturopathic practitioner, as opposed to just treating the symptom, I focus on identifying and addressing the underlying causes of common nervous system issues, such as insomnia (sleep issues), anxiety, stress, depression, mood disorders, poor memory and concentration, headaches and migraines, etc. This approach allows for more sustainable long-term health improvements.
