Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - naturopathic support for hormonal balance
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a condition I frequently support in practice. It is a common endocrine and metabolic condition that affects women during their reproductive years and is characterised by hormonal imbalance and metabolic dysfunction (meaning the body may struggle to efficiently use and regulate energy from food, particularly affecting blood sugar balance and how energy is stored and used). Key features can include irregular or absent menstrual cycles, higher levels of “male-type” hormones (which can affect skin, hair, and ovulation), and the presence of multiple small follicles on the ovaries.
PCOS can present in a variety of ways. The symptoms I often see include irregular periods, difficulty with weight management, increased facial or body hair, acne, oily skin, thinning hair, and challenges with fertility. Some women may also notice changes in muscle mass or body composition.
From a naturopathic nutrition and lifestyle perspective, I view PCOS as a whole-body condition. I look at underlying factors such as blood sugar balance, inflammation, stress, and gut health, as these all play a role in how symptoms develop and are experienced. My approach is not one-size-fits-all, instead, I focus on personalised nutrition, targeted support, and sustainable lifestyle changes to help restore hormonal balance.
With the right support, I often see significant improvements in symptoms, cycle regularity, and overall health, helping you feel more in control of your body and long-term wellbeing.
